BROOKINGS – At the Oct. 8, meeting of the Optimist Club of Brookings, Club President Paul Richter presented a check in the amount of $500 to the Brookings County Girl Scouts.

Those accepting the check were Harriet Boltjes, Grace Boltjes, Maggie Dailey and Service Unit Manager Wendy Dailey.

The Girl Scouts have been busy throughout Brookings County communities by creating butterfly gardens at the Brookings Nature Park, building bat boxes at Oakwood Lakes State Park, and participating in leadership and community journeys to find ways to improve communities for others.

When asked what the girls liked best about Girl Scouts, they discussed helping younger members participate in last year’s theater camp for the younger members, featuring "The Lion King," and also being able to sell nuts and cookies through their fundraisers.
