BROOKINGS – The state is reporting 12 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths in South Dakota Wednesday.

One of the new cases is in Brookings County.

Brookings County cases have risen to 4,232 total cases (one new probable): 4,192 of those people have recovered (no change), with three active cases (up by one) and 37 deaths (no change). A total of 14,065 people have tested negative in Brookings County (12 new), and 146 people in the county have been hospitalized at some point, the state reported.

The county is in the “moderate” community spread category.

There are no COVID-19 occupied hospital beds at the Brookings Hospital, the SDDOH website reported Wednesday.

The number of COVID-19 cases in South Dakota rose to 124,314 (12 new – nine confirmed and three probable) as of midday Wednesday, according to the South Dakota Department of Health.

Of the statewide cases, 221 are classified as active (down by eight from Tuesday). As of Wednesday, 122,070 people have recovered (20 new), 7,107 South Dakotans have been hospitalized at some point, 38 people are currently hospitalized (down by five) for transmission-based precautions, and 2,023 people with COVID have died (no change).

The SDDOH website reports 358,878 people (331 new) have tested negative in South Dakota.

The SDDOH website reported midday Wednesday that 665,463 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to 357,139 people in South Dakota, as reported to the S.D. Immunization Information System.

In Brookings County, 26,735 vaccine doses have been administered to 14,592 people, the SDDOH website reports. As of Wednesday, 41.6% of the total county population has received at least one vaccine dose, and 48.9% of those 12 years and older in Brookings County have received at least one vaccine dose.

The SDDOH reports 55.5% of the state population age 12 and older has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine from the state or federal allocation, and 50.4% of the state’s 12-and-older population has completed its vaccination series.
