One killed in vehicle-pedestrian crash on I-29 near Colman

COLMAN – A woman died in a vehicle-pedestrian crash near Colman Saturday night. 

Names of the people involved are not yet being released pending notification to family members, according to a news release from South Dakota Department of Public Safety spokesman Tony Mangan.

Preliminary crash information indicates a 2011 GMC Yukon was southbound in the driving lane of Interstate 29 at 10 p.m. Saturday when it struck a 34-year-old female who was walking in the driving lane. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, near mile marker 102, 10 miles southeast of Colman, Mangan reported.

Both male occupants of the car, the 29-year-old driver and the 1-year-old passenger, were not injured. Both were wearing seat belts.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
