BROOKINGS – The Brookings City Street Department declared a parking ban effective 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, and it remained in effect Friday.

All motor vehicles, implements and trailers must be removed from all streets, alleys and avenues until such streets have been cleaned of snow from curb to curb. Violators will be subject to ticketing and towing.

The City of Brookings also announced Wednesday that, due to weather, the curbside pickup for spring clean-up will be postponed until further notice. Residents do not need to clear their items from the curb.

Blizzard-like conditions forced South Dakota State University to close its Brookings campus Friday. Campus will reopen Saturday and classes will resume as normal Monday.

All campus events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday remain as scheduled. The SDSU Jazz Ensemble concert scheduled for Friday has been moved to 6 p.m. Sunday. State University Theatre's production, "A Midsummer's Night Dream" will now be performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and at 2 and 7:30 p.m Sunday in the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center. Patrons holding tickets for Friday may exchange those tickets for any of the three performances

The closing impacted SDSU’s main campus and all supporting research farms and offices in Brookings County. For example, SDSU’s Office of Admissions will be closed.

Only employees classified as “essential” reported to work.

Students living on campus have access to food services in Hansen Hall, Larson Commons and the University Student Union. Residence halls and dining operations remain open. Dining services will be open during the closure from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for students living on campus. The SDSU Wellness Center will be open Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

State offices in Brookings County were also among those in 50 counties ordered to remain closed Friday by Gov. Kristi Noem.
