Michael James Carpenter, 59, of Brookings, S.D., passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., surrounded by his loved ones.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Brookings, S.D. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church starting at 1 p.m.
Michael James Carpenter was born on March 2, 1963, in Brookings, the son of Roger and Verla Carpenter. He grew up in Brookings and attended school and graduated from Brookings High School in 1981.
Mike worked at many places over the years including Prairie Lanes, the Brookings Power Plant, construction and, of course, Carpy’s Pub. He had a true passion for sports, especially bowling and golf.
Mike is survived by his mother, Verla Carpenter of Brookings, S.D.; a sister, Jody Carpenter of Brookings, S.D.; a nephew, Tyler Krump of Redfield, S.D.; three aunts, Delores Carpenter, Darlene Carpenter and Arlene DeJabet; two uncles, Dick DeJabet and Bob Kracke; Rich and Linda Kielman and many other cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roger Carpenter, and his grandparents.
