Seaman Andréa Mayrose, originally of Salem, graduated from United States Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, on Nov. 10, 2021. All enlisted Navy sailors are currently trained at this command.
Seaman Mayrose successfully completed eight weeks of intensive basic training as one of 427 recruits in her training cohort, learning skills such as firefighting, basic damage control, marksmanship, and seamanship.
At the completion of training, Seaman Mayrose was recognized as the recipient of the Navy Club of the United States Military Excellence Award. This is the highest honor a recruit may earn and is given “to the graduating recruit who best exemplifies the qualities of enthusiasm, devotion to duty, military appearance and behavior, self-discipline, and teamwork.”
Mayrose is the daughter of Jerry Mayrose and Pattie Mayrose and graduated from McCook Central High School in 2002 and Harvard College in 2006. She served in the U.S. Peace Corps as a Rural Education Volunteer in Zambia from 2011-2013.
From 2015-2021, she worked in various roles at South Dakota State University in Brookings. She is currently in training at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.
Once she completes A and C schools, she will serve as a Hospital Corpsman Behavioral Health Technician.
