Lyle Gene Bjorklund,  83, of Volga, died July 20, 2018, at his home surrounded by family while on hospice care.  

Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, at the Volga Christian Reformed Church with burial at Trinity Cemetery in Volga.  Visitation is Monday, July 23, from 4-8 p.m. at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.  Eidsness Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

 Lyle G. Bjorklund was born on March 31, 1935, in Estelline, the son of Verner and Amy (Aronson) Bjorklund.  Lyle received his education in the Castlewood Schools, and was a graduate of Castlewood High School in 1954. He married Joan TeKrony on Aug. 7, 1956, in Estelline.    

After receiving his education, Lyle was employed at various establishments, including Trisco Feeds as a salesperson, Max’s Milling for several years, the Castlewood Creamery, ASC Office in Hamlin, and also Timmers’ Well Drilling in Estelline.  Together, Lyle and Joan owned and operated Lyle’s Foodland in Volga, and the Bruce Market in Bruce.  He retired in 1997. 

Lyle was a long time member of the Volga Christian Reformed Church where he served on the church council, the Volga Chamber of Commerce, PTA, acted as a city councilman, was a member of the Volga Lions Club and Booster Club. He also served as the scorekeeper for the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams for over 30 years.  Lyle was a polio survivor since 1942.  

Survivors include his wife, Joan Bjorklund; children, Vonda Bjorklund of Volga, Gene (Michelle) Bjorklund of Volga, Todd (Nancy) Bjorklund of Estelline, Randy (Lori) Bjorklund of Brookings, and Karen (Dale) Algood of Volga; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sally Bjorklund of Minneapolis and Avis (Everett) Kelly of Omaha, Nebraska.

Lyle was preceded in death by his two brothers, Rodney and Loren.
