Lucas, Cossacks (5-0) drill Orioles

LENNOX – Daymein Lucas had a career night as top-ranked Sioux Valley handled Lennox 41-10 on Friday night.

The senior rushed for 271 yards to top the 1,000-yard mark for the season, and found the end zone four times.

Through five games, Lucas has 1,034 yards and 14 touchdowns.

The Cossacks improved to 5-0.

Lucas scored on a 5-yard run up the middle midway through the first quarter.

The Orioles got on the board via Tyson Stoebner’s 28-yard field goal.

Jaxton Schiller caught an 18-yard TD toss from Noah Puetz late in the first and Brennan Stoltenberg’s second successful PAT kick put Sioux Valley ahead 14-3.

Lucas had scoring runs of 11 and 2 yards in the second stanza to push the margin to 26-3.

Tyler Schwartz got his feet down in the corner of the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown reception from Puetz with 2 seconds to go in the opening half. Stoltenberg’s kick made it 33-3.

Lucas wasted little time icing the game after halftime, rumbling 80 yards for a score on the first play from scrimmage. Schwartz converted the two-point conversion to give the visitors a commanding 41-3 lead.

Puetz finished 4-of-4 for 51 yards with two TDs. Schiller had two catches covering 27 yards and Chase Ringheimer added one for 14.

Tate White picked up 97 yards on six rushes.

The Cossacks totaled 528 yards of offense, including 477 on 53 rushing attempts.

Stoltenberg paced the defense with eight tackles. Jake Schneider and Tristan Richarz added seven stops apiece, and Schiller had six. The Sioux Valley defense recovered one fumble.

Lennox ended up with 236 yards of offense.

Zach Leisinger was 12-of-20 for 163 yards, including a 64-yard scoring pass to Holdyn Breck with 10:22 remaining in the third quarter. Stoebner’s PAT kick provided for the final margin.

Breck had five catches for 93 yards and Ray Williams ran for 45 yards. Stoebner recorded 14 tackles.

Sioux Valley travels to Salem to face McCook Central/Montrose and Lennox (0-5) heads to Madison on Friday.
