Lake Preston cruises past Iroquois 66-18; Estelline falls to Waubay/Summit

LAKE PRESTON – Lake Preston limited Iroquois to just two points in each of the first three quarters en route to a 66-18 nonconference girls’ basketball victory Monday night.

The Divers, meanwhile, scored at least 20 points in all three periods to build a 62-6 lead. They were up 20-2 after a quarter and 42-4 at halftime.

Ashlyn DeKnikker had another big game, scoring 27 points to go with six rebounds, four assists, seven steals and a block. She was coming off a 30-point performance Lake Preston’s last time out – a 55-38 win at Hendricks, Minn., on Thursday.

The Divers totaled 31 field goals – all two-pointers – and were 4-of-11 at the free-throw line. They had 43 rebounds, 18 assists and 19 steals.

Lexie Larsen posted a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds to go with a pair of dimes and four steals.

Lindsay Hillestad contributed 12 points, seven boards, six assists, four steals and a block. Meriah Flegel had six points, five rebounds, two assists, three steals and a block. Olivia Christensen chipped in with five points and five rebounds.

Madison Perkins dished out three assists. She and Lexis Curry accounted for both of the Divers’ fourth-quarter buckets.

The Lady Chiefs’ Katie Dubro (seven) and Harley Nelson (five) combined for 12 fourth-quarter points. Kaitlyn Maas finished with four points and Niah Rogers two.

Lake Preston (4-4) plays host to Dell Rapids St. Mary on Friday. Iroquois (0-7) begins play in the 281 Conference Tournament on Friday.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

 Waubay/Summit 64, Estelline 39

ESTELLINE – The Mustangs outscored the Redmen 20-9 in the second quarter to move ahead 29-18 and were up 53-34 through three in the nonconference game.

Justin Zirbel had 15 points and Matt Ahdahl added 13. Travis Purdy posted nine points and nine rebounds. Tate Gaikowski added eight points and 13 boards.

Estelline got 15 points, five rebounds and three assists from Marcis Hausman. Zach Loomis added eight markers.

Estelline (0-7) is host to Great Plains Lutheran tonight. Waubay/Summit (2-5) heads to Faulkton Area on Saturday.
