Kisecker, Shumaker to hold senior recital at State

BROOKINGS – South Dakota State University senior percussionists Alex Kisecker and Nick Shumaker will hold a recital at 7:30 p.m. March 30 in the Peterson Recital Hall in the Lincoln Music Hall on the SDSU campus.

Kisecker, a music education major from Sioux Falls, has been a member of The Pride of Dakotas Marching Band’s drumline, the SDSU Concert Band, Wind Symphony and Percussion Ensemble.

Shumaker, a music education major from Humboldt, has served as section leader of The Pride of Dakotas Marching Band’s drumline and as a member of the SDSU Concert Band, Wind Symphony and Percussion Ensemble.

As a soloist, Shumaker will perform works such as Tim Huesgen’s “Trilogy” for jazz vibraphone, a marimba transcription of the Asutrias (Leyenda) by Isaac Albéniz, and Rick Tagawa’s “Inspirations Diabolique” for multiple percussion soloist. Kisecker will perform “Fertility Rites” by Christos Hatzis, an electro-acoustic piece for marimba that incorporates Inuit throat-singing, as well as “New-Thaan” by percussionist Bob Becker which seeks to emulate Indian classical music and Bob Bollman’s “Suite for Lounge Lizard” for solo timpani.

They will perform two duets: “Faded Lines” for rudimental snare drum, field drum and bass drum composed by Andrea Venet, who visited SDSU with her percussion duo Escape X in 2016, and “Into the Air,” a contemporary marimba duet by Ivan Trevino.
