Judy Arhart, age 76, of Alpena, died Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls from complications of infection. Her funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday at Bethesda Church, Huron, with Rev. Roy Burket, officiating. A private family burial will be held. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p..m. Friday, at Bethesda Church, with her family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday evening.

Memorials are preferred with Judy’s choice being the Lakota Nazarene Church at Wounded Knee with Pastor Cecilia Spotted Bear. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kuhler Funeral Home. Visit www.kuhlerfuneralhome.com

Judy Arhart was born in Dixon, Illinois on April 19, 1942, to Lloyd and Lois (Grossnicklel) Summers. She graduated from Polo High school in Polo, Illinois and graduated from Greenville College, Greenville, Illinois. She taught Home Economics and English at Wessington Springs Academy, Wessington Springs, South Dakota.

On Nov. 24, 1967, she married LaVerne Arhart. She lived on the farm in Alpena until 2015 when she moved to Huron.

 Judy loved to cook and sew and was well known for making special decorated birthday cakes for her children’s birthday parties. She was active in Bethesda Church as church librarian for 28 years. She was a loving wife, and mother and especially adored her thirteen grandchildren and her cat Ernie. Judy loved God and her family.

 Grateful for having shared in her life are two daughters, Ellie (Kenny) Kleinsasser and Vicky (Brent) Schneider; two sons, Andrew (Melissa) Arhart, and Jonathan (Joy) Arhart; thirteen grandchildren, Zach, Nick, Ben, Ty Kleinsasser, Jacob, Abbie, and Julia Schneider, Anna, Wyatt, Josie, Will, Jesse Arhart; and Zoey Arhart; one brother, Dan (Linda) Summers; step-mother, Jane Summers; one brother-in-law, LeRoy (Phyllis) Arhart; two sisters-in-law, Alice Olson and Agnes Ekstrum; one half sister-in-law, Diane (Harlan) Thompson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

She was proceeded in death by her husband; her parents; her step father-in-law, Leonard Sheffield, her mother-in-law, Clara Sheffield; her sisters, Sherrill Klakulak and Karen Groves; and her brothers-in-law, Darrell Groves, Gene Olson and Richard Ekstrum.
