James A. Vincent, 97, of Madison, Minnesota, and formerly of Aurora, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at Madison Health Services in Madison, Minnesota.  

Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings.  Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Rude’s Funeral Home. Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

James A. Vincent was born on March 8, 1920, in Albee, South Dakota, the son of Gilbert and Freda (Dorau) Vincent.

James received his education in Revillo and was a graduate of the Revillo High School in 1938.  He served in the United States Army Engineers from 1941 until 1945 serving in four campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes.  

He married Delores Balk on April 2, 1950, in Pipestone, Minnesota. After their marriage, he owned and operated Jim’s Barber Shop in Brookings from 1950 until 1975. In 1977, he was employed at the State Highway Engineers at SDSU until his retirement in 1984. Delores died on Dec. 9, 1982, in Sioux Falls.  

He married Myrtle Hay on Oct. 26, 1991, at First United Methodist Church in Aurora.  They enjoyed traveling together and numerous years spending winters in Texas along with summers on Marion Lake and Big Stone Lake.  He enjoyed gardening, playing cards and loved to fish. Most recently they lived at Grace Haven Assisted Living in Madison, Minnesota.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Aurora Fire Department and the Aurora American Legion. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Jim is survived by his wife, Myrtle of Madison, Minnesota; two sons, Gary Vincent (Nancy) of Marshall, Minnesota, and Dale Vincent of Wilmar, Minnesota; a daughter, Susan Vincent of Watertown; two grandsons; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Vincent of Newport, Minnesota; step children, Ron (Iris) Hay and family, Antoinette (Jim) Henningsen and family, Colleen (Brian) Linscomb and family, Jim Hay and family and Myrtle’s siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delores; two brothers, Robert and Thomas (Ruth) and two step sons, Tommy and Woody.
