Jacks draw Texas in NIT

South Dakota State is a No. 7 seed and faces second-seeded Texas in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.

The game will air live on ESPN.

The Jackrabbits are 24-8. They won the Summit League regular-season title with a 14-2 record to earn an automatic bid to the NIT. SDSU fell 79-76 to Western Illinois in the quarterfinals of the Summit League Championship on March 9.

The Longhorns are 16-16 and finished sixth in the Big 12 Conference standings with an 8-10 mark. They dropped a 65-57 game to Kansas in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championship.

The winner of Tuesday’s matchup faces the Xavier/Toledo victor in the second round.

SDSU is in the postseason for the eighth consecutive season and the NIT for the second time.

The Jackrabbits qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2012 and 2013, the College Basketball Invitational in 2014, the National Invitation Tournament in 2015 and the NCAA in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

In the 2015 NIT, No. 8 SDSU beat top-seeded Colorado State 86-76 on the road. The Jacks fell 92-77 at No. 5 Vanderbilt in the second round.
