NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. – Three-time defending champion Denver leads South Dakota State by one shot following the first round of the Summit League Women’s Golf Championship, which began Monday at the 6,142-yard, par-72 ArborLinks.

Jackrabbits in 2nd at Summit League

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. – Three-time defending champion Denver leads South Dakota State by one shot following the first round of the Summit League Women’s Golf Championship, which began Monday at the 6,142-yard, par-72 ArborLinks.

The Pioneers carded an 8-over-par 296 while the Jackrabbits, the runners-up last season, shot 297.

IUPUI (312) is a distant third, followed by Oral Roberts (313), North Dakota State (317), South Dakota (319), Western Illinois (322), Omaha (323) and IPFW (329) in fourth through ninth, respectively.

SDSU’s Megan Mingo overcame a late double bogey to take the individual lead after firing a round of 3-under 69.

She had six birdies and one bogey through 15 holes before making a 7 at the par-5 16th hole. She parred Nos. 17-18.

Denver’s Jessica Carty (72) is second and teammate Sophie Newlove (74) sits in third.

Also for the Jackrabbits, Teresa Toscano (75) is tied for fourth, Sydney Bormann (76) is tied for ninth, Hallie Getz (77) is tied for 11th and Islamiah Fuad (84) is tied for 40th in the 45-player field.

The second round in the 54-hole event is today.

Mingo, Toscano, Getz earn All-Summit League honors

For the first time in program history, three South Dakota State women's golfers were honored on All-Summit League teams. Mingo was named to the first team, and Getz and Toscano were second-team honorees.

League officials announced various awards prior to the start of the Summit League Women's Golf Championship at the ArborLinks Golf Course.

Mingo, who earned first-team all-league honors in 2016, repeats this season after leading the Jackrabbits and ranking fourth in the Summit League with a school-record 73.6 stroke average.

Getz picked up her third all-league honor as she was named to the second team. She ranks second on the team and seventh in the league with a 74.93 stroke average.

Toscano earned her first Summit League postseason honor, being named to the second team. She turned in a fantastic freshman season, ranking second on the team and fifth in the league with a 74.68 stroke average.
