BROOKINGS – The Jackrabbits jumped out to a 24-11 lead after a quarter and were never seriously challenged in a 70-44 Summit League win over North Dakota State on Thursday at Frost Arena.

The Bison did put together a 9-2 run at the start of the second quarter to get within four points at 26-22, but SDSU closed the quarter with an 8-1 run of its own – capped off by a Kerri Young jumper inside of a minute – to go into halftime with a comfortable 34-23 lead.

The Jacks pushed the lead to 27 points – 56-29 – late in the third quarter following a 3-pointer by Madison Guebert as they outscored NDSU, 22-9, in the third.

Young and Ellie Thompson both scored to open the fourth and give SDSU its largest lead of the game at 28 points – 60-32 – and the Bison didn’t get closer than 22 points the rest of the way.

Guebert and Thompson finished with 13 points apiece as Guebert dished out five assists and Thompson pulled down six boards. Clarissa Ober added 12 points and Young contributed 11 points and five dimes as the Jacks improved to 17-5 on the season and 8-2 in the Summit League.

Emily Spier’s 13 points led NDSU, which dropped to 5-18 and 3-7 in the league play.

The Jacks play host to South Dakota at 2 p.m. on Saturday in a chance to avenge an earlier Summit League loss to the Coyotes.
