Jackrabbits cruise to victory

BROOKINGS – Six Jackrabbits scored in double figures as South Dakota State beat NAIA Division II opponent Concordia (Neb.) 103-67 on Friday night at Frost Arena.

SDSU shot 54.4 percent (37-of-68) from the field and made 17 of its 30 attempts from 3-point range (56.7 percent).

David Jenkins Jr. hit four treys and finished with a game-high 19 points.

Skyler Flatten had an efficient night, dropping in 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including a 4-of-5 mark from long range.

Mike Daum added 16 points, Ian Theisen 15, Reed Tellinghuisen 14 and Tevin King 12. Theisen hit three 3s, while Daum, Tellinghuisen and King each added two. King was 5-of-6 from the floor overall.

King and Brandon Key both dished out five assists, and Tellinghuisen added four. Daum grabbed five rebounds. King had five steals and Flatten four.

The Jackrabbits led 50-29 at halftime and their lead peaked at 42 points – 103-61 with 1:55 remaining. SDSU turned 20 CU turnovers into 31 points.

The Bulldogs got 14 points from Brevin Sloup. Clay Reimers added 12 and Kyle Pierce 10.

South Dakota State (8-4) plays host to North Dakota on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Notes (from SDSU Sports Information): The game was an exhibition for Concordia, which has a 9-2 record on the season. … SDSU scored 100 points in a game for the first time since Feb. 28, 2013, when it defeated Omaha 100-82. SDSU is now 90-5 all-time when scoring 100 or more. … Six Jackrabbits reached double figures in a game for the first time since Feb. 28, 2013, at Omaha. Tellinghuisen moved into 26th on the Jackrabbits’ career scoring list with 1,159 points. He passed Tom Rops (1,147 from 1992-96) on Friday.
