Ice Dogs hand Blizzard first loss, 5-1

BLAINE, Minn. – Caleb Hite scored twice and added an assist as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs (3-0) handed the Brookings Blizzard their first loss of the season, 5-1, during the NAHL Showcase on Friday evening at Schwan Super Rink.

Sumuel Ruffin contributed a goal and two assists.

Erlla Vanska scored on an assist from Robert Blueger and Hite lit the lamp on an assist from Ruffin to put the Ice Dogs up 2-0 after a period.

Hite scored again a little more than 2 minutes into the second to push the margin to 3-0. Ruffin was credited with the assist.

The Blizzard got on the board at the 12:54 mark of the second via Cameron Teamor’s goal. Brendan Aird and Parker Revering assisted.

Ruffin’s goal – assisted by Hite and Hunter Wendt – put Fairbanks ahead 4-1 heading to the third.

Tanner Schachle found the back of the net with 15:43 remaining to provide for the final margin. Nolan Schaeffer assisted.

Josh Benson made 20 saves to earn the win in goal. Brookings’ Ben Robataille stopped 37 shots.

The Blizzard (2-1) close out the Showcase facing the Shreveport Mudbugs today at 3:45 p.m.
