The Elkton-Lake Benton boys basketball team picked up a win over Great Plains Lutheran over the weekend while Iroquois/Lake Preston fell to James Valley Christian on Saturday. Arlington defeated Estelline/Hendricks in girls action on Friday night.
BOYS
• Elkton-Lake Benton 56, Great Plains Lutheran 51
ELKTON – The Elks defeated the Panthers on Saturday night in Elkton thanks to 23 points from Ryan Krog.
ELB and GPL were tied at 12 at the end of the first quarter but the Elks took a 28-21 lead into the half. ELB extended it’s lead to 43-25 heading into the fourth quarter and held on for the victory despite being out-scored 26-13.
Krog led the way by knocking down six 3-pointers and adding four rebounds, four steals and two assists. Carson Griffith had 13 points and 16 rebounds in the win while Quinten Poindexter had seven points and four rebounds.
Austin Rubendall had 17 points for the Panthers while Alex Hail had 14 points and Nyles York had eight points.
The Elks improved to 5-6 on the year and will host De Smet on Thursday night.
• James Valley Christian 69, Iroquois/Lake Preston 44
LAKE PRESTON – The Vikings used a big effort in the second and fourth quarters to defeat the Sharks in Lake Preston on Saturday.
The Vikings took a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and out-scored the Sharks 16-7 to go into halftime up 31-20. JVC extended its lead by winning the third quarter 13-11 before out-scoring ILP 27-13 to secure the victory.
Josh McMasters led the Sharks with 21 points on the night. Logan Peskey also had 13 points and nine rebounds while Riley Casper had nine rebounds and two blocks.
Landon Wallman led the Vikings with 19 points, Landon Wager had 14 points and Isaac Korell had 10 points.
The Sharks fell to 6-7 on the season and will be in action again on Tuesday when they host Wessington Springs.
GIRLS
• Arlington 52, Estelline/ Hendricks 33
ESTELLINE – The Cardinals won every quarter on Friday night and that led to the 19-point win.
Arlington led 16-8 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 27-18 lead into halftime. The Cardinals then led 36-24 at the end of the third and would run away from the Redhawks in the fourth quarter.
Jaelyn Huntimer led the Cardinals with 14 points. Harley Johnson and Jo Steffensen each had 11 points. Addie Steffensen had nine points.
The Redhawks were led by Kenzy Beare who had 13 points and five rebounds. Saide Johnson had nine points and three steals.
The Cardinals are now 11-4 on the season and play at Deubrook Area on Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. The Redhawks dropped to 4-8 and play Wilmot in Hendricks tonight at 7:15 p.m.
