Herbert Paul Lokken, 90, of White, died Monday, July 16, 2018, at the Hendricks Nursing Home in Hendricks, Minnesota.  

Memorial services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brookings with burial and full military rites in Fairview Cemetery at White.  Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 22, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in White, and one hour prior to the service at the church.  

Herbert was born on March 9, 1928, to Ingvald and Irma (Swantz) Lokken in Madison, Minnesota.  He attended District 72 in Brookings County from grades 1-8, and graduated from Hendricks High School in 1946. 

On Sept. 1, 1950, Herbert joined the United States Army, where he faithfully served until his honorable discharge in July of 1952.   

On May 23, 1953, Herbert married Wanda Ibach in Hendricks, Minnesota, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. The couple moved to White in 1965. 

Later, Herb began working for SDSU in Poultry Research and then for the Physical Plant until his retirement in 1993.  

Herb was a member of Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a former member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hendricks, where he taught Sunday School.  Herb volunteered for the White Fire Department for 18 years and also served on the White City Council.  He was also a member of the American Legion Post 88.  

Survivors include his children; Russell of Brookings, Cynthia Stoebner of Sioux Falls, Paul (Patti) of North Mankato, Minnesota, Dawn (Steve) McCarthy of Brookings, and Donald of White; son-in-law, Neil King of Valley Springs; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda on June 1, 2018; daughter, Kathy King; grandson, Andrew McCarthy; two sisters, Elaine and Carole; and two brothers, Russell and Ronnie.
