On Thursday at the rural acreage of retired chiropractor Dr. David Eggers, a pair of John Deere 3020 diesel tractors are loaded for movement to Minneapolis, the first step on their journey to Ghana, Africa.
They will later be shipped by sea and arrive at their destination in two to three months.
Working since mid-October, a group of about 10 South Dakota State University “Catholic Jacks” students, members of an affiliated chapter of Tractors for Africa, restored the pair.
The total cost for buying and shipping the tractors was about $50,000. The Jacks raised about $25,000, which was matched by an anonymous donor.
