BROOKINGS – The Bombers Gray had a tough day at the plate as they managed to push across just one run in a doubleheader loss to Harrisburg at Mickelson Field.

The visitors won the opener, 9-1, and completed the sweep with a 10-0 shutout in the nightcap.

Gray drop two to Harrisburg

BROOKINGS – The Bombers Gray had a tough day at the plate as they managed to push across just one run in a doubleheader loss to Harrisburg at Mickelson Field.

The visitors won the opener, 9-1, and completed the sweep with a 10-0 shutout in the nightcap.

Gray, 0-9 on the season, takes on Sioux Falls West in a Monday doubleheader at Harmodon that starts at 5 p.m.

The Titans scored one run in both the first and second inning to take the early lead before the Bombers got on the board with a run in the bottom of the second frame.

Ethan Molengraaf drew a one-out walk and then Gavin Fixsen and Anthony Hildebrandt had back-to-back singles. Magnus Nelson took one for the team to plate Molengraaf but Gray left the bases loaded to trail 2-1.

Harrisburg sent 11 batters to the dish in the fifth to score six runs and then added an insurance run in the sixth to end the game early via the run rule.

Isac Norgaard had the other hit for Brookings as Molengraaf was saddled with the loss after giving up seven runs – four earned – on five hits and four walks with four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings of work.

Fixsen relieved and allowed two runs – one earned – on five hits and a walk in 1 2/3.

The Titans stayed hot in Game 2 as they scored two runs in each of the first two innings before tacking on three more in both the third and fourth to end the game early.

Aidan Stewart, David Fenske and Joseph Holy each singled for the Bombers.

Norgaard suffered the loss as he gave up six runs on three hits and six walks with four strikeouts over the first two innings.

Hildebrandt tossed the final two frames and gave up four runs – two earned – on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
