Gerjets: We must protect our rights

Letter to the editor

Good day, America. Because you are reading this, I assume you are awake, or are you? I have been sick to my stomach watching the political skullduggery in Washington, D.C.

Wake up, America. Do you want to lose your right to attend the church of your choice?

In 1966, I joined the military and swore an oath to protect and defend the constitution against all enemies – foreign and domestic. To my knowledge, that oath does not have an expiration date. I am fearful that the politicians in Washington, D.C., are trying to abolish our Second Amendment rights.

Do you want to give up your firearms?

Why is the government so bent on taking away our Second Amendment rights? How do you conquer a nation that is armed? Wake up. The Jews lost 6,000,000 people in WWII. Do you suppose they were armed? Wake up – tick tock.

During WWII, the Japanese considered invading America but didn’t for fear of a “gun under every blade of grass.”

We must vote our anti-American lawmakers out of office.

Why are our leaders so afraid of armed law-abiding citizens?

I understand that mass killings are horrendous, but disarm a nation based on the criminal acts of a few?

There is talk of changing the Fourth Amendment to make it easier to enter your abode and confiscate your firearms.

Wake up, America! You must ask – no – demand that our Washington, D.C., representatives put up a battle against the people who are trying to promote socialism.

Wake up.
