BROOKINGS – The Brookings Fire Department battled two fires in two days northeast of Brookings, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
The first fire was reported at 4:03 p.m. Wednesday and occurred at the Brookings Regional Landfill, 4101 30th St., Sebring said.
“The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office along with Brookings Fire Department responded to the above location for a pile of tree stumps and mulch on fire. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The damage of the incident is estimated at $2,000,” Sebring said.
The second fire was reported at 6:57 a.m. Thursday and occurred near 210th Street and 474th Avenue, east of the landfill, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.
“The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office along with the Brookings Fire Department responded to the above location for approximately 200 round bales in a pile on fire. The grass bales had been piled approximately one month prior. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The damage of the incident is estimated at $10,000,” Sebring said.
