The next Adult Craft Class at the Brookings Public Library starts at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13. Participants will make folded-book trees. Registration is required for the free event; stop at the library or call 692-9407.

The Brookings Public Library will host its next Game Night from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Wooden Legs Brewing Co., 309 Fifth St. No. 100 in downtown Brookings. They’ll have games to choose from, or feel free to bring your own to play with a group. Snacks are provided. RSVP on the event on Facebook to let them know you’re coming.

Saturday, Dec. 14

Brookings American Legion Post No. 74 will host a pancake, sausage and eggs breakfast from 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the post home, 1229 Western Ave. Proceeds will be used to support the Boys State, Youth Trooper Academy and American Legion Baseball programs. The American Legion Auxiliary will host a bake sale during the breakfast.

The 15th annual Santa’s Workshop will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Estelline American Legion. Come in to shop from a variety of vendors, enjoy breakfast and lunch served by the Rodeo Club, and see Santa from noon-2 p.m. Kids’ crafts and a photo booth will also be available.

Stroll through a wonderland of lights, images and scenes of the holidays at McCrory Gardens’ Garden Glow. The outdoor light display will be open from 5-8 p.m. every night through Jan. 6, excluding Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for youth 6-17 years old, and free for kids 5 and younger, SDSU students with ID, and McCrory Gardens members.

Exaltation! Dance and Choral Company presents the 20th annual A Christmas Celebration at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center. The celebration shares the birth and life of Christ through an emotional and poignant blend of narration, music and dance. Cost is $5 for general admission and free for SDSU students with ID, and a cash goodwill offering after each performance benefits the Brookings Domestic Abuse Shelter. The center’s box office is open from noon-4 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 90 minutes before each show. Tickets are also available online at www.sdstate.tix.com or by calling 688-6045.

The Children’s Museum of South Dakota will host sensory friendly play featuring Santa from 10 a.m.-noon Sunday, Dec. 15, at 521 Fourth St. Museum admission rates apply.

The VFW Auxiliary invites the community to a brunch from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the post home, 520 Main Ave. The menu includes scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, toast, coffee and juice for $7. The Works includes the above breakfast with a separate plate of biscuits and gravy for $9. Children, ages 3 to 7 eat for $4, and 2 and younger are free. The SDSU Choral Department will present its annual Choral Yuletide Concert at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children high school age and younger. Participating choral ensembles include the Concert Choir and Choralia (Women’s Choir) conducted by Dr. Laura Diddle and the Statesmen conducted by Dr. Andrew Robinette. Each group performs individually and as part of a mass ensemble, the SDSU Choral Artists.  The Choral Artist selections are accompanied by a large ensemble of faculty and community instrumentalists. The Choral Yuletide is a festive celebration with choirs singing from the stage, balcony, aisles and all together on the stage. The festival features more than 250 student musicians who are members of three choirs.

Monday, Dec. 16

Feeding South Dakota will provide free food for families in need at its next mobile food distribution from 12:15-1:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at the Elkton Community Center parking lot.

Food distributions on a first-come, first-served basis provide an assortment of food that may include frozen and fresh produce, frozen meats, assorted breads and/or canned and boxed items. Please bring something to carry your food in, such as coolers, bags or totes. A photo ID is required.

Tuesday, Dec. 17

Learn how to use plants and soil in the Brooking landscape to manage stormwater runoff at an open house 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, in Room 104 of the Edgar S. McFadden Biostress Lab on North Campus Drive. Faculty and students in the SDSU landscape architect program have created designs that utilize what is known as green infrastructure for commercial, residential and public spaces.

All veterans are welcome to Warriors Rock at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Brookings Arts Council, 524 Fourth St. The free program will provide individualized guitar instruction and music experiences to support veterans.
