SDSU Associate Professor Tammy Yonce will premiere two works during her faculty flute recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Lincoln Music Hall’s Peterson Recital Hall. Better Choices, Better Health Chronic Disease workshop will be held Tuesdays, through Feb. 12, at the SDSU Wellness Center, 1401 N. Campus Dr. The sessions will take place from 9:30 a.m.-noon. Workshop topics include: managing pain, fatigue and stress; tips for healthy eating, personal exercise plans; relaxation techniques; medication how-tos; dealing with emotions; and working better with your doctor and care team. For more information or to register for the workshop, call SDSU Extension at 1-888-484-3800. The Brookings Innovation Center will present its second quarterly entrepreneurial networking series, Innovation After Hours, from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Brookings Innovation Center. This session’s speaker is Don Endres, president and CEO of Novita. The event is free to attend, and drinks and appetizers will be provided.

First United Methodist Church will offer Financial Peace University starting on Tuesday, Jan. 15. 1 Million Cups, a way for creators, artists, entrepreneurs and business owners to gather and share ideas on upcoming projects or new products, will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Children’s Museum of South Dakota. Free coffee will be served.

Staff from the office of U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds will visit Brookings from 2-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, to assist residents with any issues they may have dealing with federal agencies. SDSU Program Council presents Nacho Average Dan from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Jack’s Place in the basement of the University Student Union. Come for free nachos and music provided by Dan Henig. He has over 159,000 YouTube subscribers and will perform acoustic covers of well-known explicit music. Prepare to be shocked and amused.

The Brookings Regional Humane Society’s annual meeting starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Old Market Eatery, 424 Fifth St.

SDSU Chi Omega’s annual Skating for Wishes fundraiser will be held from 7:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16. Start the new year off right by supporting Make a Wish South Dakota! There is a $3 cash-only entry fee plus $3 skate rental. Baked goods will also be sold at the event.

Thursday, Jan. 17

If you love to paint, join the painting group that meets from noon-5 p.m. every Thursday at the Brookings Arts Council, 524 Fourth St. Come work on individual projects and collaborate on art talk and ideas. No pre-registration is needed.

The next Adult Craft Class at the Brookings Public Library is set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in the upstairs Cooper Room. This week, participants will make wire and nail polish flowers. The Elkton Community Club’s annual banquet is set for Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Elkton Community Center. The Brookings Interfaith Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 726 Sixth St. The topic for discussion will be Peace:  According to your faith tradition (world religion), what is peace and how is it to be achieved? What personal and social dimensions of peace are recognized? How do you find peace? The meeting will begin with a potluck. Please bring a passing dish, if able, and remember that many in our interfaith community do not eat pork or may be vegetarian.

The fifth annual Prairie Striders Indoor 5K on the SDSU track at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex is set for Saturday, Jan. 19. The race will be run in two heats – one at 8:30 a.m. for those planning to finish in 24 minutes or less and the other at 9 a.m. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. To register, go to allsportscentral.com. The SDSU Department of Teaching, Learning and Leadership’s Family Resource Network will host free “Understanding Me Up to Age 3” parenting classes from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. the next two Saturdays, Jan. 19 and Jan. 26, at the Brookings Public Library, 515 Third St. While there are four sessions, participants are not required to attend all four. However, participants are required to register by contacting the Family Resource Network at 688-5730 or sdsu.frn@sdstate.edu. The Jan. 19 topics are “Why I Do What I Do” and “Keep Me Safe.”
