ESTELLINE – Estelline/Hendricks won the girls’ title and Colman-Egan and Castlewood tied for first on the boys’ side at the Pat Gilligan Alumni Invite on a blustery and chilly Tuesday.
Girls
Estelline/Hendricks totaled 118 team points, while Deubrook Area (98) was second and Colman-Egan (89) third.
Flandreau (68) ended up fourth, Sioux Valley (67) fifth, Lake Preston (56) sixth, Arlington (22) 12th, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland (10) 14th and Elkton-Lake Benton (8.5) 15th.
Lake Preston’s Rylie Brown led the area athletes with a pair of individual wins, taking first in the 100-meter dash in 12.42 seconds and the 200-meter dash with a 26.81 clocking.
Estelline/Hendricks’ Greta Johnson was tops in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, 9 inches, and the long jump with a mark of 16-2. Teammate Tiffany Vohlken won the shot put (34-1 1/2) and was second in the discus (101-11).
Josie Olson crossed first in the 1,600 with a time of 5:44.73 and fellow Dolphin Ashley Vandermeer placed first in the triple jump at 35-5 1/2.
Deubrook won the 4x200 (1:53.89), 4x400 (4:25.8) and medley (4:39.38) relays while taking second in the 4x800 (11:12.25). The Divers were first in the 4x100 (55.23).
Three Hawks found the top of the podium as Reese Luze won the 3,200 in 12:26.31, Mackenzie Hemmer the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.21 and Josie Mousek the high jump after clearing 4-11. Luze added a second-place finish in the 400 (1:07.89).
The Cossacks’ Lynsey Stevens was runner-up in the high jump (4-11), long jump (16-1) and triple jump (34-11 3/4).
Flandreau’s Ashtyn Bertram took second in the 100 (12.84) and 200 (27.09).
Estelline/Hendricks’ Sophie Johnson was second in the 100 hurdles (18.00) and pole vault (9-3). Teammate Katelynn Hawley finished second in the shot put (32-7).
Deubrook’s Cortney Bauman crossed second in the 300 hurdles in a time of 52.73.
Boys
The Hawks and Warriors both ended up with 73 team points, with Sioux Valley (71) taking second.
Flandreau (54) finished seventh, ELB (39) 10th, Arlington (38.5) 11th, Lake Preston (37.5) 12th, ORR (35) 13th, Estelline/Hendricks (31) 14th and Deubrook (22) 15th.
Kade Groos had a solid day for Colman-Egan, winning the 100 in 11.09 and 200 with a 22.87 clocking and adding a runner-up finish in the long jump (19-7 3/4).
The Hawks’ Dalton Voelker won the shot put with a heave of 44-11 1/4.
Deubrook’s Treven Grimsrud was first in the 3,200 with a time of 10:52.35. ELB’s Hunter Nielsen won the 110 hurdles in 17.58 seconds.
The Cossacks placed first in the 4x200 (1:44.75) and medley (4:13.76) relays.
Sioux Valley’s Lane VanderWal (triple jump, 38-1 3/4) and Brennan Stoltenberg (discus, 121-8 1/2) both added second-place showings.
Lake Preston’s Rhett McMasters was second in the 3,200 (10:54.2) and Flandreau’s Michael Witte matched that finish in the 110 hurdles (18.07).
