Elks, Cardinals both win one in DVC clash

ARLINGTON – Matthew Nibbe posted a big double-double as Elkton-Lake Benton ground out a 61-57 Dakota Valley Conference victory over the host Cardinals on Thursday night.

He scored 23 points on 7-of-15 shooting and tracked down 20 rebounds.

Marcus Harming added 13 points, Mason Gaumer nine, Aiden Erickson seven and Mason Ramlo six.

ELB was up 16-12 after a quarter. It was tied at 23-23 at halftime and the Elks were ahead 40-36 through three.

For the Cardinals, Caden Letsche dropped in 21 points and Ryker Erstad added 20.

Mason Bunker chipped in with 10 markers. Chris Wallace grabbed 14 rebounds.

•8 Vermillion 65, Flandreau 49

FLANDREAU – The Tanagers topped the Fliers in nonconference action. 

Jakob Dobney (22) and Connor Saunders (21) combined for 43 points for Vermillion. Dillon Gestring added 10 markers. 

Flandreau’s Tash Lunday posted another double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. 

Chase LeBrun added 11 points and five boards.

• Lake Preston 52, Colman-Egan 44

COLMAN – The score was tied at 10-10 after a quarter and 21-all at halftime. The Divers held a 33-30 advantage heading to the fourth.

Jasper Denison posted a double-double of 19 points – on 5-of-9 shooting – and 16 rebounds. Riley Casper contributed 14 markers. Carter Malone totaled eight points, five rebounds and five steals.

For the Hawks, Ryan Voelker finished with 17 points and nine boards. Easton Williamson added 11 points and Camden Schmidt eight to go with seven rebounds and a trio of steals.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

• Arlington 50, Elkton-Lake Benton 45

ARLINGTON – Hadley Carlson and Harley Johnson led the Cardinals past the Lady Elks.

Carlson scored 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting, adding nine rebounds and coming up with six steals.

Johnson scored 19 points.

Arlington led 17-12 after a quarter, 30-29 at halftime and 44-37 through three.

The Cardinals shot 42.6% (20-of-47) from the field.

The teams combined for 48 turnovers – 23 and 25, respectively.

ELB’s Kailyn Drietz had nine points, Brooklyn Nielsen eight and Hannah Krog, Rachael Krog and Tevan Erickson each seven.

• Centerville 55, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 14

CENTERVILLE – Haley Meyer had 21 points, eight rebounds, five steals, four assists and a block for the Tornadoes. Lillie Eide added 12 markers.

 Castlewood 62, Estelline/Hendricks 28

ESTELLINE – The Warriors capped the regular season with a 17-0 regular season.

Alayna Benike had 21 points and 12 rebounds for Castlewood. Mackenzie Everson (five steals) and Maddie Horn both contributed 14 points. Darah DeKam grabbed 10 boards.
