Dakota Valley Conference Boys’ Basketball Tournament – First Round

ELKTON/ARLINGTON – The top four seeds held true as Dell Rapids St. Mary, Arlington, Colman-Egan and Elkton-Lake Benton picked up victories in the first round of the Dakota Valley Conference Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Tuesday.

Dell Rapids St. Mary 83, Estelline/Hendricks 53

In Friday’s semifinals, DRSM (8-1) takes on the Elks (5-4) in Elkton and Arlington (7-1) faces the Hawks (5-3) in Arlington. Both games tip off at 7:30 p.m.

In the consolation semifinals, the Dolphins (4-6) play the Redhawks (2-7) in Elkton and the Divers (1-8) square off with the Raiders (1-9) in Arlington. Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m.

In Elkton

 Dell Rapids St. Mary 83, Estelline/Hendricks 53

Conor Libis dropped in a game-high 25 points as the Cardinals beat the Redhawks.

DRSM led 26-17 after a quarter, 44-34 at halftime and 66-44 through three.

Libis added four assists and a pair of steals.

Weston Geraets posted a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds to go with three blocked shots.

Sam Palmer contributed 11 points and three blocks. Max Herber had seven points and four boards.

Zach Loomis paced Estelline/Hendricks with 14 points. Riley Benning added 13 points and Marcis Hausman 10.

The Dolphins’ rally came up a basket short as the Elks held on for a 38-36 first-round win on their home floor.

Deubrook Area led 12-6 after the first eight minutes before ELB got it going in the second quarter to take a 19-15 advantage into the intermission. Elkton-Lake Benton expanded its edge to eight – 31-23 – through three quarters.

Matthew Nibbe scored a game-high 15 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Elks as Grant DeRuyter added seven markers, seven boards and a pair of blocks. Mason Gaumer chipped in with five points while Marcus Harming finished with five points, two steals and two dimes.

Clayton Koppatschek’s 12 points were tops for the Dolphins as Trace Vierhuf contributed nine and Brock Sheffield had eight.

The Cardinals took control in the second quarter while doubling up the Raiders.

Arlington led 18-11 after a quarter, pushed the margin to 36-15 at halftime and was ahead 52-25 heading to the fourth.

Trey Ramstad had a solid performance with 17 points, five assists and four steals. He canned four 3-pointers.

Devon Heuer contributed 13 points and four steals.

Casey Stegeman finished with nine points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots. Trevor Larsen hit a trio of treys for nine points.

The Cardinals went 9-of-25 from long range and came up with 18 steals.

ORR’s Taylor Hojer had 11 points.

The Hawks pulled away in the second half to advance to the semifinals.

Colman-Egan was up 13-7 after a quarter and 28-23 at halftime. The Hawks outscored the Divers 10-2 in the third to push the margin to 38-25.

Lake Preston hung around early in the fourth, before Colman-Egan used a big spurt to grab a 20-point advantage.

Dalton Voelker scored a game-high 17 points in the win.

Ty Hiller added 12 points, Nate Tolley 10 and Alec Landis nine.

The Divers, who were playing without point guard Byron Bumann, got 11 points from Paydon Casper and 10 by Jasper Denison.
