Dorothy Mae Strande, 76 of Lake Preston, SD died on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD.

Dorothy Mae Carlson was born, May 6, 1942, near Badger, SD to Ragnar "Tom" and Betty (Liljegren) Carlson. She attended country school and graduated from Estelline High School. Dorothy married Gaelan (Bud) Strande, September 8, 1960 in Pipestone, MN. Dorothy worked alongside Bud on the farm all of her life and briefly worked building homes in Lake Preston. 

Dorothy enjoyed reading, talking on the phone, being outside working, gardening, taking care of pets, cooking, auctioning and spending time with family. She also looked forward to Fourth of July and Christmas gatherings. 

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Gaelan (Bud) Strande; two sons, Steven (Shelley) of Lake Preston, SD; Michael of Lake Preston; three daughters, Karen (Dave) Schilling of Bruce, SD; Julie Strande-Pirlet (Reid) of Lake Preston, SD; Cindy Strande-Butler (James) of Aurora, SD; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Floyd (Norma) Carlson of Lake Norden, SD; two sister-in-laws, June Carlson of Lake Norden, SD and JoAnn Carlson of Brookings, SD; several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers LeVern (Ole), LeRoy (Spark) Melvin (Panner) and two sisters Delores (Sissy) Menzel and husband Dean, Vera Thomas and her husband Gene.

Funeral services for Mrs. Strande will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019 at the North Preston Lutheran Church with Vicar Brad Sanderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Chapel in Lake Preston and preceding services in the church on Friday.
