Dakota Valley Conference Girls’ Basketball Tournament – First Round

WHITE/RAMONA – Top-seeded Deubrook Area, No. 2 Estelline/Hendricks, third-seeded Colman-Egan and No. 5 Arlington posted first-round wins in the Dakota Valley Conference Girls’ Basketball Tournament on Monday.

Deubrook Area 59, Elkton-Lake Benton 23

Arlington 50, Dell Rapids St. Mary 42

In Thursday’s semifinals, the Dolphins (9-0) take on the Cardinals (5-5) in White and the Redhawks (9-2) face the Hawks (5-4) in Ramona. Both games tip off at 7:30 p.m.

In the consolation semifinals, the Cardinals (3-7) play the Lady Elks (1-9) in White and the Divers (2-9) square off with the Raiders (0-11) in Ramona. Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m.

In White

 Deubrook Area 59, Elkton-Lake Benton 23

Shaylee DeBeer scored 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting to help the Dolphins remain unbeaten with a defeat of the Lady Elks.

The senior added six steals, five rebounds and four assists.

Deubrook led 12-5 after a quarter, 26-9 at halftime and 44-19 through three.

The Dolphins forced 29 turnovers – 23 of which came on steals.

Mattie Nepodal added nine points, six boards and five steals.

Andrea Vandermeer had eight points and Ashley Vandermeer seven to go with five rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block.

Abbey Selleck contributed five markers.

ELB’s Jesse Busselman finished with six points.

Arlington overcame an early deficit and then held off DRSM late for a victory in the matchup of Cardinals.

DRSM was up 11-9 after a quarter.

Arlington moved ahead 18-17 at halftime and was up 36-28 through three. It led by double figures for a good portion of the fourth, before DRSM cut the deficit to four points late; however, Arlington took care of business at the foul line and defensively down the stretch to seal the win.

Makayla Nelson scored 14 points.

Marissa Baker, who hit a trio of 3-pointers, added 11 points. Jayna Haufschild, who went 5-of-5 on free throws, and Madysn Gilbertson contributed seven points apiece.

DRSM’s Ella Heinitz dropped in a game-high 21 points. She buried three treys. Maddie Schwebach had 10 markers.

The Redhawks led 14-8 after a quarter, 33-17 at halftime and 43-24 at the end of three.

Kylie Beare led a balanced Estelline/Hendricks attack with 15 points, while Kaylee Johnson and Morgan Saathoff added eight apiece.

ORR’s Khloe Tieman finished with a game-high 18 points. Jensine Matson had seven markers.

 Colman-Egan 60, Lake Preston 53

The Hawks took control in the third quarter en route to downing the Divers.

Colman-Egan was up 6-5 after a quarter and 21-17 at halftime, before grabbing a 46-29 advantage heading to the fourth.

Mackenzie Hemmer posted a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds. She finished 12-of-22 from the floor and 4-of-8 at the foul line.

Lake Preston’s Ashlyn DeKnikker recorded a double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds. She was 11-of-26 from the field and 5-of-8 at the stripe.
