Dairy barn fire destroys truck

No injuries, but damages total nearly $300K

BRUCE – A truck valued at nearly $200,000 was a total loss and a dairy barn sustained another $100,000 in damages during a fire Saturday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The fire was reported at 2:25 a.m. Saturday and occurred at 20165 468th Ave., northeast of Bruce, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

“It was found that a truck used to clean bunkers in the dairy barn had caught on fire due to an unknown mechanical issue while a worker was operating it. It was found that the fire spread to some of the bunks in the barn,” Sebring said.

“The fire departments were able to contain the fire, and no (people) or livestock were injured,” he said.

“The estimated damage to the building was $100,000. The Mensch 3410 Vacuum Truck was a total loss and valued at $189,000,” Sebring said.

Also responding were the Bruce Fire Department, Brookings Fire Department, Estelline Fire Department, Estelline Ambulance and Brookings Ambulance.
