BROOKINGS – The Cubs were shutout on the road against the Castlewood Ravens Friday. Brookings had just four hits and picked up a 9-0 loss.

The Ravens took no time to get the lead as they scored a run on their very first batter of the game. Alex Gauer hit a lead-off home run to right field to make it 1-0 after the first inning.

Jared Tschetter walked to start the third inning for the Cubs. Carter Roach then grounded into a double play and Ty Schneider grounded out to end the inning.

Both teams went scoreless in the second, third and fourth innings, but Castlewood extended their lead in the fifth inning. They hit their second home run of the game. This time it was a three-run bomb from Andy Turbak.

With one out in the seventh inning, it appeared the Cubs were in business to break the scoreless streak. Sam McMacken hit a single and Austin Koenig got on base with a walk. J Anderson then grounded into a double play to end the inning.

The Ravens would then hit their third home run of the game in the seventh inning. Turbak’s second home run of the game was a grand slam to make it 7-0.

In the eighth inning, Brookings had runners on first and second after Tschetter hit a double and Roach walked. Schneider lined out to left field and Todd Standish flew out to center to end the inning.

Castlewood had the bases loaded with one out, courtesy of three walk’s from Cubs pitcher David Thomas. Ben Deville and Connor Fransen both scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-0 through eight innings.

The Cubs had back-to-back doubles in the top of the ninth from McMacken and Caleb Stratmoen. However, they were unable to break the shutout as J Anderson popped out to the third baseman and Thomas struck out to end the game.
