DE SMET – Sioux Valley, ranked third in Class A, hit a school-record 17 3-pointers while drilling De Smet 96-53 in a Lake Central Conference boys’ basketball game Monday night.
The Cossacks led 26-11 after a quarter and 52-31 at the break.
Trevor Olson made a school-record eight treys and dropped in a game-high 25 points.
Tayt Vincent added 21 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Trevor Hanson posted a double-double of 20 points and 13 boards before fouling out.
Zack Puetz ended up with a trio of treys while tallying 11 points and adding seven rebounds. Max Nielson totaled six markers and three steals.
Hanson and Nielson both nailed a pair of 3-balls, while Vincent and Ryan Schuster added one apiece.
The Bulldogs got 19 points and six boards from Gage Gruenhagen. Jon Todd added 16 points.
Sioux Valley (12-2, 2-0), which bounced back from a 70-69 loss to then-No. 5 St. Thomas More at the Hanson Classic on Saturday in Mitchell, returns to action with a game at Flandreau (11-1) on Thursday, Feb. 2.
The Cossacks beat the Fliers 62-51 in the Big East Conference Tournament final on Jan. 7.
De Smet (3-5, 0-1) plays host to Oldham-Ramona/Rutland on Thursday.
Note: The game, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, was moved up a day due to the pending winter storm.
• Chester Area 51, Colman-Egan 44
COLMAN – Devin Eppard had 21 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead the Flyers past the Hawks in a nonconference matchup.
Chester (8-5) was ahead 15-10 after a quarter, 29-20 at halftime and 43-28 through three.
Levi DeVries and Austin Eppard added eight points apiece. DeVries also grabbed six boards and came up with seven of the team’s 16 steals.
Colman-Egan’s Malik Poppenga finished with 12 points, five boards, three steals, three blocks and two assists.
Bodee Groos totaled 11 points, four boards and two assists.
Keith Crittenden contributed seven points before fouling out. Kade Groos and Walker Olivier both scored six points.
Colman-Egan (8-4) heads to Deubrook Area on Thursday.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
• Florence/Henry 63, Lake Preston 50
LAKE PRESTON – Morgan Roe (22), Chantel Nelson (16) and Allison Grygiel (10) combined for 48 points in the Falcons’ nonconference win.
F/H (7-6) led 22-8 after a quarter, 31-22 at halftime and 45-32 through three.
The Divers got 18 points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks from Ashlyn DeKnikker.
Karley DeKnikker added 10 points and three steals. Lexie Larsen contributed eight points and four boards.
Tara Scheidt chipped in with six markers, five boards and three steals. Linday Hillestad, who corralled six rebounds, and Meriah Flegel, who notched four assists and five boards to go with three steals, added four points apiece.
Lake Preston (4-9) plays host to Arlington on Friday.
