AUSTIN, Texas - South Dakota State sophomore goalkeeper Jocelyn Tanner was selected to the 2022 Academic All-America® Division I women’s soccer team, the College Sports Communicators organization announced on Tuesday.

The award designation highlights the best performing student-athletes both on the court and in the classroom in the nation. Tanner, a Second Team selection, is only the third Jackrabbit soccer player to earn Academic All-America accolades from the organization formerly named CoSIDA. She joins Diana Potterveld (First Team) who was honored in 2014 and Erin Kasmarik (Second Team) who was recognized in 2008.

Tanner’s 2022 season was one of the best in program history and among the best in the country. She finished the year first among all Division I women’s soccer goalkeepers in goals-against average (.316) and was second in save percentage (.897), trailing only Jacksonville Murphy Sheaff (.902). The Ham Lake, Minn., native had seven games with multiple saves made. Her goals against average was third best in school history for a single season, excluding the spring 2021 season, while her save percentage was the fourth best ever by a Jackrabbit keeper.

Splitting duties in goal with teammate Hailee Fischer, the duo combined with a strong back row to tally the country’s fifth best goals against average (.474) as a team. They also had the eighth best save percentage (.866) and 14th ranked shutout percentage (.579), all of which were bests in The Summit League.

Tanner allowed three goals in 19 halves of soccer in 2022. The back-to-back Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-Conference choice finished the season with a 9-0-3 overall record in goal. She also claimed a TicketSmarter Summit League Defensive Peak Performer of the Week award once in season.

Tanner currently holds a top-five career save percentage mark in SDSU history at .822. Her goals against average of 0.73 is fourth all-time. Her 25 wins rank fifth among all-time SDSU goalkeepers.

She is one of 19 members on the Academic All-America® Division I women’s soccer team that boast a 4.0 GPA. Tanner has already earned an undergraduate degree in mathematics and is currently in graduate school at South Dakota State University. Last week she earned repeat honors on the Academic All-League Team awarded by The Summit League.
