SIOUX FALLS – The South Dakota State University cross country team earned three Summit League cross country postseason honors as Leah Hansen and Ben Olson were named athletes of the year and Coach Rod DeHaven was chosen as the men’s coach of the year.
Olson was crowned the individual champion at this season’s Summit League championships and helped lead the Jackrabbit men to their seventh consecutive league title.
He also earned all-region honors after placing in 19th at the NCAA Division I Midwest Regional where he ran a personal-best 10k time of 29:59.7 and was garnered two Peak Performer of the Week recognitions.
Hansen is the first athlete to be named female athlete of the year in three consecutive years and is the second athlete to have received the award three times in their career.
Additionally, she made history at the league championships by earning her third consecutive league title and championship MVP while leading SDSU to a runner-up team finish. Hansen also claimed 19th place at the NCAA Midwest Regional, where the women’s team placed in 10th.
Rod DeHaven, SDSU’s Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, was named the Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year for the seventh consecutive season. He has helped lead the men to seven straight league cross country team titles and, this season, a sixth-place team finish at the NCAA Midwest Regionals.
