Coffeehouse tips help Belize Student Scholarship Fund

BROOKINGS – The Mission of the Month for February at the Mission Coffeehouse at First Lutheran Church is Belize Student Scholarship and Assistance Fund.

The First Lutheran Church Mission Team serving in mission in Belize is initiating a Belize Student Scholarship and Assistance Fund. Its purpose is to provide educational assistance for the very poor students of Belize, Central America in the villages where we serve.

Providing books, sewing supplies and other study materials, including tuition, will enable selected students to complete a course of study which may otherwise be unavailable to them.

Such a benefit for the poor and disadvantaged students will provide sustainable results. The church has an administrative advantage in this ministry because Dee Shanley, who is currently a volunteer teacher in Belize, will advise the distribution of funds. As a local, she can identify and recommend appropriate help for children or their families based on personal observations. Through an application process, Shanley will forward information to a First Lutheran Mission Team that will determine the distribution of funds.
