Coffeehouse tips go to food pantry

BROOKINGS – The Mission of the Month at the Mission Coffeehouse in First Lutheran Church for June is the Brookings County Food Pantry.

The mission of the Brookings County Food Pantry is to provide food on an emergency basis for those in need of temporary assistance.

Food donated to the food pantry is distributed free to clients in need. Typically, the amount of food distributed is based on the number of people in a household and provides enough food for approximately one to two weeks.

Last year, the food pantry served 2,500 adults and children, and 130 new families.

So far in 2022, the pantry has served 60 new families. The food pantry is a nonprofit organization that receives funding from the United Way and Brookings County. In addition, food is donated by county residents, churches, and a wide variety of community organizations.

The pantry is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 to 4:30 p.m. for public assistance. Donations can be dropped off 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on those days or in the blue donation container at the east entrance anytime.
