CMSD introduces youth advisory group

BROOKINGS – Created with the belief of the strong image of the child and that children should have a voice in their learning experiences, the Children’s Museum of South Dakota is embarking on the second year of its Kidoodle Council youth-based advisory board.

Members of the Kidoodle Council generate ideas for programs and exhibits and provide feedback to museum staff guiding direction in future operations. They also are ambassadors for the museum in the community.

“Kidoodle Council is an important piece in the museum’s mission to spark imagination and learning for all,” CMSD Associate Director Mike Mogard said. “The 2019 council worked hard to help us create new exhibit ideas and we are excited to continue the process with the next group of students. We are excited to continue this intentional effort to gain the talent and expertise of youth who know play best.”

The council, for children ages 6-12, is named after Kidoodle, the museum’s mascot. Kidoodle’s name, colors, and fun personality are the direct result of ideas of children.

Members of the Kidoodle Council will meet nine times throughout the year on Saturday mornings and will participate in additional volunteer opportunities.

Serving on the 2020 council are: Beckett Grunewaldt, Brecken Dorn, Charleigh Smith, Cora Jane Livingston, Connor Kroschel, Josie Olson, Kate Tkach, Kendon Knutson, Lauren Tkach, Lia Olson, Logan Laufmann, Maddix Huyck, Marley Huyck and William Intermill.
