'Chutes post split in finale

BRANDON – The 'Chutes split a doubleheader with the Lynx on Monday, winning Game 2 by a 9-4 margin after dropping the opener 5-2.

Brookings went 18-9 in the regular season.

Regional play begins later in the week. Tourney information is still to be announced.

Game 1

 Brandon Valley 5, Brookings 2

The Lynx put up a four-spot in the sixth to overcome a 2-1 deficit.

The 'Chutes scored both their runs in the first.

Lincoln Hardin led off the game with a triple.

Parker Winghart, who finished 3-for-4, drove him in with a single. He then moved to second on a groundout and third on Talon Richter’s flyball hit before scampering home on a wild pitch.

Trey Svennes was 2-for-4.

Hardin threw two scoreless frames, giving up two hits with four strikeouts. Ashton Witte allowed one run on four hits with two Ks and a walk over the next two. Josh Devine took the loss after surrendering four runs on three hits and three walks in two innings.

Game 2

The 'Chutes used a five-run fifth frame to beat the Lynx and tally a twinbill split in their regular-season finale.

Justin Cofell singled, Ethan Molengraaf reached on an error and Devine walked to load the bases in the big frame.

Jett Leddy, Svennes and Tyson Brandt proceeded to draw walks, forcing in the former three to make it 5-3. Leddy made it home on a wild pitch, which made it 6-3.

After Lincoln Hardin walked, Sam Hardin plated Svennes with a groundout to extend the margin.

Lincoln Hardin finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Six pitchers combined on the six-hitter.
