RENNER – After winning their opening game on Friday night in the Renner Tournament, the Brookings ‘Chutes dropped both games on Saturday, coming up short in a 6-1 loss to the Sioux Falls Cyclones White before falling, 16-7, to the Cyclones Red.

Brookings, 5-15 on the season, plays host to its own tournament at Bob Shelden Field, starting on Friday.

The ‘Chutes got on the scoreboard early when Caden McKeown hit a one-out single; advanced to second on an error; moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Tanner Shepardson’s base hit. Parker Rykhus followed with a double, but Brookings stranded both runners in scoring position.

The Cyclones took advantage of two of the ‘Chutes’ six errors on the day to plate three runs in the second and then put the game away with two in the fourth and an insurance tally in the seventh.

Rykhus suffered the loss on the mound as he surrendered five runs – two earned – on six hits and two walks with a strikeout over five frames. Rhett Zelinsky tossed the last two innings and gave up an unearned run as he walked one Cyclone batter.
