Bullets go 1-2 in State Tournament

HARRISBURG – The Brookings Bullets, Brookings’ 16U team lost their first two games in the State Tournament, but won their final game.

Friday

 Brandon Valley 3, Brookings 1

Brookings jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but was unable to get thier offense going after that as they had just three hits the whole game.

Aidan Stewart scored on a passed ball in the top of the first inning to take the lead. Brandon Valley responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. 

Brandon Valley then took the lead with a run in the bottom of the second and extended their lead to 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Stewart and Nathan Lease each went 1-for-3. Trenton Pederson went 1-for-2. Lease picked up the loss after piching a complete game. He gave up three earned runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and four walks.

Saturday

 Yankton 6, Brookings 5 (9 inn.)

Brookings lost a heartbreaker in the second game of the tournament as Yankton won on a walk off single in the ninth inning.

Yankton scored four runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. Brookings responded with four runs in the top of the sixth. Lease hit a two-run single. Pederson hit a sacrifice fly and Rocklyn Dauphinais hit an RBI single to make it 4-4.

Each team scored a run in the seventh inning. Zach Struck hit an RBI single and the game went to extra innings tied 5-5.Brookings had two guys on in the top of the eighth, but were unable to score and Yankton scored in the ninth inning.

Lease went 1-for-4 with two RBI’s. Struck and Dauphinais each went 1-for-3 with a RBI.

Brookings found their stride in the third game as they scored 11 runs. 

Lease went 2-for-2 with two RBI’s. Dauphinais and Pederson each went 1-for-3 with an
RBI. Matt Nordmeyer picked up the win for the Bullets after pitching a complete game shutout. He gave up four hits, struck out 10 batters and had no walks.
