BROOKINGS – Renner put six runs on the scoreboard during the third inning of the opener to power to a 14-5 win, but the Bullets forced extra innings in Game 2 before pulling out a 12-11 9-inning triumph to earn a split on Wednesday at Bob Shelden Field.

Bullets capture nightcap in extra innings to split with Renner

BROOKINGS – Renner put six runs on the scoreboard during the third inning of the opener to power to a 14-5 win, but the Bullets forced extra innings in Game 2 before pulling out a 12-11 9-inning triumph to earn a split on Wednesday at Bob Shelden Field.

Brookings travels to Brandon Valley on Saturday for a noon doubleheader.

The Bullets got on the scoreboard first when Wes Koenig’s base hit plated Matt Girard, who led off the frame with a single.

But Post 307 answered with two runs in the top of the second and then took control in the third after sending 10 batters to the plate to the tune of six runs to go up 8-1.

Brookings got within 8-5 after putting up two in the third and two more in the fifth, but Renner tacked on four more in the sixth and then added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.

Jaysen Williams had two hits, including an RBI single in the third, while Kolby Weinberg doubled in the fifth.

Aidan Stewart threw the first three innings while Williams tossed three frames of relief. Carter Merritt finished up in the seventh.

Post 307 built a 3-0 lead after two at-bats, but this time it was the Bullets’ turn to put up big numbers as they plated six runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-3 lead.

Renner tied the game at 6-6 with a single run in the third and two in the fourth, but Brookings scratched out a run in the bottom to go back up 7-6.

The visitors plated four runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth for an 11-7 advantage before the Bullets rallied.

Brookings tallied four runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, and then won the game with a run in the ninth.

Girard, Caden McKeown and Kolby Weinberg combined on the mound for the win.
