BROOKINGS – Yankton beat Brookings 83-40 during Eastern South Dakota Conference boys’ basketball action Tuesday night at Bob Jostad Gymnasium.
Wisconsin commit Matthew Mors had an efficient night with 24 points on 7-of-10 shooting in just 15 1/2 minutes of game time. He was 9-of-10 at the foul line.
The Bucks built a 20-2 lead after a quarter despite getting just two points from Mors. The 6-foot-7 junior opened the second stanza with a flurry – which included a pair of dunks – and had 18 points in the period to help the visitors push the margin to 49-18 at intermission.
Rugby Ryken hit four 3-pointers off the bench for 12 points for the Bucks (8-2).
Cooper Cornemann totaled 10 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Hunter Kotrous, a 6-10 senior, contributed eight points, eight boards and four blocked shots.
Yankton shot 50.9 percent from the field. Brookings ended up at 28.8 percent with 22 turnovers.
Jonah Dobbs hit a trio of treys for nine points.
Karter Kruit and Tyson Boeve both chipped in with seven markers off the bench. Trent Broksieck ended up with six points and five dimes.
Tanner Shepardson left the game 2:45 in after taking a big spill and did not return.
Brookings (1-9) plays at Brandon Valley on Thursday at 7 p.m.
