BROOKINGS – The new president of the Brookings Wildlife Federation is Bob Kurtz. Kurtz replaces current BWF President Spencer Vaa. Vaa has served BWF for 10 years, was a charter member (1985) of the federation, and was on the board of directors for many years.
Kurtz has been on the bard of directors of BWF since February 2017. He has been active in the group’s program to send kids to the South Dakota Wildlife Federation’s one-week Conservation Camp in the Black Hills.
Kurtz has been a HuntSafe teacher for 41 years. HuntSafe is a program that GFP has mostly for young people, boys and girls, ages 12-15. He recently received an award for this service. Kurtz became certified to teach Hunt Safe in 1979 when Vaa was the new Conservation Officer (game warden) in Brookings County.
The BWF holds monthly meetings to educate its members and the public about natural resource conservation issues. The group was formed in 1985 and is one of 19 State affiliates of the South Dakota Wildlife Federation. It is also one of the hundreds of local affiliates of the National Wildlife Federation – the oldest conservation group in the country.
