BROOKINGS – Parks, Recreation and Forestry Director Dusty Rodiek has resigned effective Oct. 14, according to a City of Brookings news release.
“Over the past three years, Dusty has led the Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department, fostering the growth of the department’s employees, programming and community involvement,” the news release says. “Accomplishments under his leadership include the attainment of grants and committed donations for trails, a new dog park, new playground equipment, a park master plan, derecho clean-up, and so much more. Dusty implemented and oversaw major investments in park facilities, neighborhood development, trails and strategic financial planning. This commitment will ensure parks, recreation and forestry will always take priority in Brookings.”
Rodiek said, “I have enjoyed my time in Brookings and am proud of what the department has accomplished during my tenure. Our successes are largely a result of the dedicated team of people that I was fortunate enough to work with. I truly wish Brookings all the best.”
City Manager Paul Briseno said he understands Rodiek’s desire to work closer to his home (north of Watertown).
“I will miss his commitment to the organization, community, and Parks, Recreation and Forestry employees. Dusty is an exceptional leader and advocates for parks, recreation and forestry. He personally and professionally aligned with Brookings’ vision, mission and values,” Briseno said in the release. “The national search for the next director will commence shortly. As one of the top three funded departments, Parks, Recreation and Forestry is critical to the exceptional quality of life attained in Brookings, and therefore the search for the right candidate will be critical.”
