Brookings’ Kreie finishes ninth at state tennis tourney

RAPID CITY – Brookings freshman Carson Kreie, the Bobcats’ flight six representative at the Class AA state tennis tournament in Rapid City, secured a ninth place finish in the flight and was the only Bobcat to win a match during the state tourney.

Kreie on Friday defeated Sioux Falls Jefferson’s Carter Kemmis, 10-8, in a consolation bracket match to move into the Saturday matchup with Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Caden Patzwald for ninth place.

The Bobcat picked up a 10-8 win in the match to earn three team points for Brookings and pick up the ninth-place showing.

As a team the Bobcats finished 11th with nine points, all earned by Kreie.

Sioux Falls Lincoln scored 539.5 points to win their eighth consecutive team tennis state championship. They narrowly defeated Sioux Falls Washington who finished with 522 points.

O’Gorman (402), Rapid City Stevens (236.5), and Watertown (214) rounded out the top five team finishes.
