BROOKINGS – The Brookings JCPenney store is one of only three that will remain in South Dakota after the company announced the closure of 138 stores nationwide Friday.
Four South Dakota stores – in Watertown, Mitchell, Pierre and Yankton – will close within the next few months. Most affected stores will begin their liquidation process on April 17, and the company will eliminate about 5,000 positions nationwide.
That will leave stores in just Brookings, Sioux Falls and Rapid City in the state.
