Brookings High School Debate: State tournament results

The Brookings High School speech and debate team capped off a successful competitive season by placing fifth in AA team sweepstakes at the state tournament March 4-5 in Mitchell.

Students amassed points by competing in public forum and Lincoln Douglas Debate, extemporaneous speaking, original oratory, and informative speaking. Emily Hua and Igen Nyawanda made it to the semi final round in public forum before losing to the eventual state champions from Aberdeen.

Albert and Alex Shore were quarterfinalists in public forum. Xander Hof was an octofinalist in Lincoln Douglas debate, while Igen Nyawanda placed fifth in international extemporaneous speaking.

Senior Olivia Anderson was also recognized as one of four students receiving the Rosella Blunk award given to oral interpers in recognition of excellence in competition and character throughout their high school careers in competitive speech activities. Students are nominated and voted on by their peers in speech programs throughout the state.
