BROOKINGS – The Brookings girls’ soccer team fought hard, but fell to Harrisburg 5-0 on Tuesday.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the ninth minute of the game when Hailee Christensen put one in the back of the net. The Tigers didn’t waste much time as Maddie Scott made it 2-0 two minutes later. Kiah Peters scored in the 24th minute of the first half and Jaylee Hofer scored with four minutes left in the first half to make it 4-0 at halftime.

Brookings was outshot 6-4 in the first half. They played a lot better in the second half as Christensen scored the lone goal of the half and it didn’t come until there was seven minutes left.

“The first half is what killed us,” Brookings head coach Adam Juba said. “It didn’t really feel like we wanted to play soccer. It looked like we kind of knew how to play soccer, but our heart just wasn’t in it. At halftime I told them ‘we just have to play with more heart and act like we want to be here and win the game.’ I think it showed because we only let in one goal in the second half. They really turned it around and I’m really happy that they decided that they didn’t want to stop playing soccer.”

Brookings was outshot 11-6 in shots on goal. Maddix Archer had two shots in the game with one of them being on goal. Desirae Johnson and Alexis Schelske each had two shots on goal.

The Bobcats play at Sioux Falls Lincoln on Thursday.
