BROOKINGS – Brookings Area United Way conducted a book drive from June 21 through July 2.
More than 1,320 books were collected during the two-week span. The books collected will be redistributed to children through various events including the Downtown @ Sundown concert series. Brookings Area United Way is committed to fighting for the health, education, and financial stability for every resident in Brookings County.
A BAUW release stated, “This book drive speaks to our mission statement of uniting people, sharing resources, inspiring hope and enriching lives for a stronger Brookings County, as we are ensuring children have access to books to further develop the ability to read. We would like to say thank you to the organizations that were drop-off sites, businesses that used this as a monthly philanthropy event, and all the community members that brought books to our office and drop off sites.”
Another opportunity for children to receive books is through our funded program, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which sends children from birth to 5 a free, age-appropriate book every month.
Sign up is available by emailing uw@brookingsunitedway.org, calling 605-692-4979 or signing up online at www.imaginationlibrary.com.
